Wes Carter began his second term as City Councilor in 2014, having previously served on City Council from 2008 to 2012. He was also elected Mayor Pro Tem from 2011-12. Mr. Carter is a successful business owner who owns and operates Carter’s Air Conditioning. He is the past exalted ruler of the BPOE #1558 (Carlsbad Elks) and remains involved with the Elks, Kiwanis, Carlsbad Rotary and the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Carter graduated from NMSU in 2003 with a degree in business administration. As a City Councilor, he serves on multiple boards, including the Bob Forrest Youth Sports Complex, Golf and Budget.
He is married to Cora Carter, and they have three daughters: Alexis, Lindsey and Hailey.
Ward 4 Councilor Mark Walterscheid was elected in 2018. He is a lifelong resident of Carlsbad. He graduated from NMSU with a bachelors of Science in Agriculture. Walterscheid has owned The Garden Mart for 35 years. He attends Saint Edwards Catholic Church and serves as a board member for the church. He has been a member of the Carlsbad Rotary Club for 20 years, and served as president in 2015. He has four children and 11 grandchildren. Walterscheid says he’s ready to serve you, your children and your grandchildren as Councilor, and he will work to make Carlsbad a beautiful and safe place to call home.
