New Sports Superintendent Selected

Steve Garza, a recently-retired Carlsbad High School coach and physical education instructor with several decades of experience in local athletics, has accepted a position as the Superintendent of the City of Carlsbad’s Bob Forrest Youth Sports Complex, Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway has announced.

“This is a great opportunity for our City and its residents,” Mayor Janway said. “Mr. Garza has previously served on our Bob Forrest Youth Sports Complex Advisory Board and will be able to hit the ground running. His extensive experience coaching both youth sports and high school sports makes him extremely familiar with our community’s leagues, coaches and procedures.

The Bob Forrest Youth Sports Complex, located on Lea Street, is one of the state’s premiere facilities for softball, baseball, soccer and football. As Superintendent, Garza will manage the facility’s property and coordinating schedules with local and visiting teams.

“We have a great group out at the sports complex working with Garza,” Janway said. “We know that the Bob Forrest Youth Sports Complex is a source of pride for Carlsbad, and we will always make sure that it is well-maintained and cared for.”

Garza was approved by Carlsbad City Council during the Sept. 22 Council meeting and is expected to begin serving the community soon. He replaces Ted Cordova, who was recently promoted to Director of Community Development.
