New Library Director Announced

Sarah Jones is the new Library Director with the City of Carlsbad Public Library, Mayor Dale Janway has announced. Jones, formerly the Assistant Director, replaces Cassandra Arnold, who retired at the end of January.

“Our library has an excellent reputation, and we know that Sarah will continue to uphold the highest standards as our new Library Director,” Mayor Janway said.  “She is a very capable and experienced professional, and we’re highly confident in her abilities.”

Jones has a master’s degree in library science from Emporia State University and ten years of library experience. She also earned her bachelor’s degree in advertising from Kansas State University. She joined the City of Carlsbad in 2017, having previously worked at libraries in Artesia and Junction City, Kansas.

In her letter of interest for the position, Jones shared her memories of growing up at the Carlsbad Public Library. She was only allowed to check out one book at a time, which proved challenging.

“As I wandered down every aisle, I knew picking a book was near to impossible with all the wonderful choices sitting on the shelves,” she wrote. “I have enjoyed working for the city, to help share this experience I had with our current patrons.”
