Hatfield Named as City’s IT Director

Wayne Hatfield, an employee of the City of Carlsbad for the past 13 years, has been named as the City’s IT Director, Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway has announced.

“We’re very glad to have someone as experienced as Wayne, who will be able to keep the momentum going with our IT Department,” Mayor Janway said. “Our IT Department stays very busy with a variety of tasks, including updating our communication equipment with the police department, developing our web page, and implementing upgrades to software to improve upon our ability to serve the public.”

Hatfield, a Carlsbad native, previously served as the City of Carlsbad’s IT Manager, and he also previously worked in IT for Mosaic Potash. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration: Business Computer Systems and a double-major in Management from New Mexico State University.

As IT Director, Hatfield said the mission of his department will be to continue to focus on infrastructure improvements and modernizing city services. He praised the other members of his IT Department for their experience.

Hatfield is a Reserve Captain with the Carlsbad Police Department. He and his wife, Stephanie, have two children, Taylor and Connor. The City of Carlsbad’s former IT Director, Sam Plumlee, retired in May.
