The City of Carlsbad Public Works Department provides maintenance for one hundred sixty two (162) miles of city streets, one hundred forty seven (147) pieces of rolling stock, fourteen hundred (1,400) acres of parks, two (2) golf courses, and forty (40) city buildings and other structures. In addition, the Public Works Department provides renovation services for City facilities, as well as construction services for numerous in-house projects.
The department is responsible for several areas of City services, including:

- Parks & Recreation
- Golf Course
- Water
- Wastewater & Sewer Collections
- Solid Waste (Trash)
In the area of utilities, the Public Works Department provide safe drinking water, sewer collection, wastewater treatment, refuse collection and disposal and recycling collection services for the City. Additionally, the Public Works Department provides drinking water services to La Huerta and non-potable water to commercial and industrial operations around Maljamar, NM, including Brantley Lake State Park and the WIPP site.
