City Awarded Beautification Grant Funds

CARLSBAD – The City of Carlsbad has been awarded $22,150.00 through the New Mexico Clean and Beautiful Grant Program for FY21 to assist with programs designed to curb litter and support beautification, Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway said.

Carlsbad was one of 37 communities to receive funds for this year’s program through the New Mexico Tourism Department. Most of the local money will go towards trash pick-up subcontracts, in which local nonprofits are able to organize cleanups to receive reimbursement. Funding will also be used for Riverblitz cleanup promotions, supplies and training.

“We have so much community interest in beautification,” Mayor Janway said. “These funds will allow us to work closely with grassroots organizations around Carlsbad to keep cleaning up Carlsbad.”

NMTD increased funding for the New Mexico Clean & Beautiful Grant Program by roughly 20 percent for FY21 compared to FY20The additional funds will allow local and tribal governments to create or enhance beautification, recycling and litter reduction initiatives.
