Many of our agencies have received calls regarding the City and County’s preparedness for 2019 Novel Corona Virus. Local agencies have come together to form a working group. Included in that group are key members from the Eddy County Sheriff’s Dept., Carlsbad Medical Center, Carlsbad Police Dept. Carlsbad Fire, Artesia Fire, Artesia General, WIPP Fire, Eddy County Emergency Management, Eddy County Fire Service as well as dispatch centers for city and county. We are making every effort possible to stay up-to-date with the latest information; keeping in constant contact with officials from the State Department of Health. First responders are diligently training and preparing; following the recommendations from the CDC. Please keep in mind that you play a vital role in the safety of you and your family. While reports from CDC still say the risk of community spread of the virus remains relatively low they DO recommend you take precautionary measures or non-pharmaceutical interventions to help slow the spread of illnesses. Here are a few steps you can take to help protect you and your family:
- Wash your hands thoroughly and often
- Avoid close contact with sick people
- If you are sick stay home
- Cover your coughs and sneezes
- Disinfect frequently touched surfaces
