Carlsbad Brine Well Remediation Project for the Week of November 18
Date Range: The drilling phase of the Carlsbad Brine Well remediation project began the last week of September 2019. Drilling into the cavern facilitates the grouting process to stabilize the cavern. The following is updated with information from the beginning of the project through November 15, 2019.
Current Status of Project: The traffic modifications to the “South Y” are fully implemented and have proven functional and safe. Six grouting wells have been completed to date with a total of 16 wells planned. We continue to gather new information about the characteristics of the cavern that will inform decisions moving forward. There have been no safety incidents.
Next Steps: The next two grouting wells are expected to be completed by December 4, 2019 and the start of grout injection into the cavern is presently scheduled to begin about December.
